PGI and PDO products

Naturitalia offers some of the best Italian fruit and vegetables which have been awarded the European Union’s quality labels.
To promote and protect the typical nature of its own food products, the European Union introduced specific legislation to recognise products’ history, geographical location, the quality of their ingredients and how they are made.
This legislation led to two levels of recognition: PDO and PGI.

Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is the term used to cover products that must be produced, processed and prepared in a certain geographical area using recorded and recognised expertise.

While for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), there must be a link with the region in at least one of the stages of production, processing or preparation of the product, with the product enjoying a certain level of fame.
